The adoption of technology in the realm of marketing is marketing’s biggest trend. In a matter of a few years, the Internet has become an extremely powerful platform that has changed the way we do business. The Inter, as no other medium, has given an international of global dimension to the world of business.
According to Hitwise, the world leader for search intelligence for online advertising, claimed last month that Google has hit 65% market share for their online B2B searches. Therefore, its obvious you should consider Google as the search engine to get your rankings higher.
Google considers hundreds of factors in determining where your website lies in their listing when someone uses their search engine. These factors can be broken into ‘On-the-page’ and ‘Off-the-page’ factors. Proffessionals in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) community claim that somewhere around 30% of the weight is given to on-the-page factors and 70% of the weight is given to off-the-page factors.
Here you’ll find a preliminary list considering both of these factors, and at the very least, if these are implemented, your rankings will increase.
- Effective Keyword Analysis. It all starts here, and if you chose the wrong keywords, you’ll be driving the wrong traffic to your site. This is the single, most important stage of optimization.
- HTML. Your content should not use frames or java script. Today, this is considered sloppy code. Ensure your site is designed using CSS. Among the hundreds of factors to consider, another is your title tag. It should be between 70-100 characters. (Google)
- Content. Create content for readers, not search engines. Increase your keyword visibility by using H1 tags, bolding and ensure your keywords appear as close to the top of the page as possible. Too little or too much content is considered spam and your keyword density should not exceed 12%.
- Quality. Inbound Links. This is the holy grail for SEO. The more inbound links your website has, the better rankings. Try to find inbound links from high PR sites, or trusted sites like .edu or .gov. Your website must appear in the DMOZ directory.
- Anchor Text. Do a search for ‘click here’. You’ll find a link to download Adobe Acrobat Reader. Why? You won’t find the keyword ‘click here’ anywhere on their site. They rank #1 because there are 1000’s of sites on the Internet that have a link to Adobe (inbound link for Adobe) to download their free reader, with the anchor text ‘click here’ to download Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Late 1999, Derek joined Priority Express to focus on new sales. Based on his stellar success, in the fall of 2000 he was asked to assist in the initial startup of our sister company Priority Express.com, then located in Princeton, NJ. With a focus on obtaining new sales, Derek also contributed to the operations of a “start-up” company by participating in the day-to-day operations.
Derek returned to our corporate headquarters in Boothwyn in 2001 continuing to focus on new business and providing value added services for existing clients. Later that year, he partnered with Jon Rydel, Rob Johnstone and Gerry Frey to create Priority Archives. Presently he maintains a few key accounts for PEC and focuses on new and base sales for Priority Archives.
A big baseball fan, Derek has played in the Minor League Professional Baseball circuit as a catcher with the Anaheim Angels and the Chicago White Sox farm system. During his 5 years there, he has watched over 30 teammates reach “The Show”.
As irony would have it, Derek attended Strath Haven High School and graduated in 1991. During his time there Derek threw many touchdown passes to someone who would later become a close friend and business partner, Jon Rydel with Priority Archives. He later graduated from Penn State University in 1995.
Residing in Havertown, PA, Derek is married to Jennifer and has two sons, Jack and Will. He enjoys going to sporting events with his family, throwing batting practice to his sons and playing golf in his free time.
Everyone at Priority Express and Priority Archives would like to extend our humble gratitude and appreciation for a great person, father, husband, employee and leader.
