Did You Know?

August is the time to prepare for our children to go back to school. Do you struggle in August trying to determine everything you need to do to help your children go back to school? By starting now you can prepare for back to school and help your children ease back into their school schedule easily.

Start your back to school planning by creating a family calendar. Help your children get excited about school by concentrating on the fun events you are writing down on the calendar. Write down the school holidays, after school activities, and any daily events that you need to be aware of during the school year. The first week of school brings a lot of schedules and paperwork into the home. Consolidate all the calendars into one central family calendar and you will be able to avoid conflicts that will certainly arise.

You can avoid the first day of school schedule adjustment, by starting your children on a appropriate schedule now. Start waking your children up at the time they will arise for school. You may feel that is too early to start having your children wake up on their normal schedule, but by starting them back on their normal schedule in August, you can help get them back in the school mindset very easily.

In addition to sleep schedules, start your family on a meal schedule that will mimic the school schedule. Your summer meal schedule may vary greatly from your schools and it is important to help your children accustom their bodies to a different meal schedule. You may even need to adjust the time of summer treats to conform more formal school schedule. If your children are young, they may find it difficult to switch meal times quickly, so ease into the change in meal times slowly.

Finally, help you children prepare to return to school by making the process of preparing for back to school fun. Before you rush out and start shopping for new clothes and new school supplies, your children can work on an inventory of their current clothing and school supplies. Work with your children to create lists of the items they need and if your budget will allow, include a few items they want.

Start now and you will have a stress free return to school.

Viewers across the world are tuning into their TV sets and computers to watch the 2008 Olympic Games held at Beijing from Aug 8th to Aug 24th 2008. Beijing won the bid for host city in 2001 beating Toronto, Paris, Istanbul, and Osaka. The opening ceremony was held with much fanfare at the Olympics Stadium nick-named The Bird's Nest. The ceremony was directed by China's most famous film director, Zhang Yimou who spent the last three years designing the show, trying to condense 5,000 years of Chinese history into a 50-minute show.

Some of the world's finest athletes representing over 200 countries will be competing against each other in Beijing. The spirit of the Olympics is encompassed by the five rings, designed by Pierre Coubertin, which represent the five continents and symbolize the union between men and women. The Games will strengthen ties between people of different countries, and thus serve as an important step in the efforts towards globalization.

The United States ranks second so far in the gold medal tally. U.S. athletes to watch at Beijing Games include Michael Phelps, one of the greatest swimmers of all time, Kobe Bryant, the basketball player, Tyson Gay, the world's fastest track and field runner, the gymnast Shawn Johnson, and Taylor Phinney, the cyclist.

The Chinese Government has invested billions of dollars on scaling up their infrastructure from an expanded subway system to a rail link to the airport. The country as a whole has been preparing for 7 years for this great international event even in terms of learning etiquette, speaking softly, and acting nicely. China must no doubt be very proud of this remarkable achievement.
